Hi, I have a smallish ( approx; 10 inch) old coke a cola mirror, it used to have 4x teaspoons hanging from the sides, which i didn't get with this.... Here is where the value lies, The spelling is misprinted, instead of its text saying "Coke is glass" it is printed, It is printed "Coke is GTASS"... it comes from the days when coke a cola was used as a medicinal elixir.... Can anyone help with information please...???? 13/02/2012

Q.

I have a large collection of old bottles that my father rescued years ago.  My father has since passed away and the bottles are just sitting there.  We had intended years ago to sell them but because he'd been very unwell on and off it just never got done.  The bottles have been outside in the weather.  There are alot of different types, there was a torpedo bottle but I think that's gone walk about, and lots of soda bottles etc., some are in better condition than others.

If there are any collectors in Melbourne interested at some time in having a look with view to purchase please leave details.

A. If you are interested in selling a collection you can speak to my father John at 0433 247 438 or my grandfather Ross 5780 1234. My father runs auctions in melbourne in antique collectibles and garage memoribilia and my grandfather has been collecting bottles for 40 years. You can go to http://www.roycroftauctions.com/ for more information if you'd like and have a look at our previous auctions.

Q.

I have a very old bottle that was dug up in Kingaroy, Qld. a few years ago.  The bottle is actually round and can only be kept on its side - the bottom is pointed at one end and the opening is at the other end.  It is 9 inches long and 9 inches around the middle section of the bottle.  Can anyone give me an idea when this type of bottle dates back to?

[toyota   21/11/2010]
A. Hi, Your bottle is most likely a soda water patent referred to as a "torpedo" and originally patented by Hamilton along time ago (hence also referred to as Hamiltons). They are often without embossing or most commonly with the words ROSS BELFAST embossed near the pointy base (one of the original Glass Makers). If your bottle has any other words embossed on it, this will refer to the contents manufacturer (soda water / soft drink). Your bottle is typically 1870s/1880s vintage and while an unembossed example has little dollar value, they are a great talking point with your friends. They were affectionately referred to as "drunken" bottle by another generation because they could not stand up straight :) Hope that helps. The Bottle Collector

I have a WA milk bottle I've picked up with no advertising - wasn't a big deal here in the West. It's a clear bottle with the 'inscription' 600 ml 110 and down at the base of the bottle it has "The property of the milk bottle recovery co. pty. ltd. The bottle is unmarked and not chipped. Any good to you? I remember as a kid we used to take the alfoil top off and flick it between our forefinger and middle finger, kind of like a miniature frisbee, to see how far they would travel through the air. At school the government delivered little bottles of milk (one third of a pint if memory serves me) to every school and child in the metropolitan area - not sure about country areas. contact me at delftblue15@bigpond.com if you are interested.
