My Uncle Len served in the Desert and Italian Campaigns. He didn’t get any special medals – but he came home. And when I first met him at the age of five he was still in Army uniform and gave me this Nazi officer’s dress dagger which he probably bought in Paris but I fantasized that he won in one to one combat. Regardless, it is a constant reminder of the pointlessness of war and the callousness of those who caused so many deaths of innocent men – on both sides! Later in my life I offered this dagger to my cousin, Trevor Rhodes, born some time after the war and unaware of the gift that I had received from his father. thinking he would like a memento of his Dad's years at war. Trev declined saying it was given to me and it should remain with me. I thank him for that decision and the dagger will be kept and cherished through the ages to come.
