I hadn’t even thought of going until a mate said he had a spare ticket a couple of days before the match. So here I was, 18 years old and on the Underground to Wembley! You walk out of the station and in front of you is Wembley way. At the end is England’s sporting Mecca – Wembley Stadium. Just walking with the crowds of fans was a thrill that I had never felt before. Through the turnstile and up the concrete steps and there it was – the magical amphitheatre! You could have cut the atmosphere with a knife. It was breathtaking. Before long, the Band of the Coldstream Guards entered the field with all pomp and glory playing “Soldiers of the Queen” and the Community singing began. Imagine a Male voice Choir of about 50,000 singing “Land of Hope and Glory” at the top of their voices. It was a wonderful warm up for the main event. When the players eventually came on the field the roar was doubled. It was incredible. The game was good too!
